Liam and the Vacuum Cleaner

On Saturday, I was vacuuming when I got distracted by something else. Later I came back to the vacuum cleaner to find Liam playing with the cord and talking VERY, VERY loudly. His voice was echoing through the house!

As usual, this video ends with Guverro Liam crying but this time he is only fake crying. Lately, he fake cries a lot which is pretty funny.

This video is a little bit shaky. I apologize for that and will try to remember not to move around so much from now on.

Well, I am tired so I am not going to write any more tonight. Enjoy the video!

Liam and the Bookshelf

Liam loves this bookshelf. It has glass doors that slide open and two drawers on the bottom with interesting drawl pulls that he likes to rattle. One day about a week ago I was working in the kitchen and when I glanced into the living room to see what he was doing, I caught him standing at this bookshelf flipping through one of Ishtiaq's physics books. I was so worried that he was going to fall that I didn't get a chance to take a picture of him.

Since that day he has a minor tantrum whenever we take him away from the bookshelf. He crawls over to it, pulls himself up and takes a book out to flip through and chew on. Most recently the book that he tends to reach for is a UNIX book. I think he likes the colorful cover. In this video you can see him chewing on and looking at this book. I now have safety locks on the bookshelf to keep him out of it because of the glass doors.

This is a sort of long (11 minutes or so) video of Liam playing with the bookshelf and then random toys in the living room. Towards the end of this video he falls over and hits his head and then cries loudly for a few minutes. I started to cut that out but it is a part of his daily life (falling and hitting his head, that is) so I decided to leave it in. I think he has a rock hard head because he tends to refuse to do what I ask him to do and he never seems to cry for very long when he does hit his head.

The camera angle is a little bit "jumpy". Please be patient with me as I am learning about this video and posting process. Enjoy!

Tickling Liam

Well, we FINALLY got the video camera fixed up so that we can start uploading videos to this blog again. I am going to try to post several over the next few days and then we will try to start posting on a a more regular cycle.

Here is a short video I took of Guverro Liam tonight. He is very ticklish!

I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream.

Several weeks ago we began to notice that every time we ate something Liam would lean towards whatever we were eating and try to grab it. I think he was more interested in putting things in his mouth than in actually eating our food. Still, Ishtiaq thought it would be funny to give him a bite of ice cream and see what he would do. This video is of Liam eating his first bite of ice cream and, actually, his very first bite of food period. I had been hoping that Liam wouldn't inherit my sweet tooth but judging by how much he likes ice cream I think that might be a lost cause.

This past Sunday we decided to give Liam oatmeal cereal for the first time. He really liked it and has been getting it every night since then. He prefers it to be a little bit thick and usually cries for more when the bowl is empty. I give him the cereal in little souffle cups, so it isn't a huge serving. Still, it seems to me that it is pretty big for such a little tummy.

Tonight after two bowls of cereal he was still crying for more, so he also had his first piece of fruit - a bit of mashed banana. I think he liked the banana but he was kind of cranky by that point so it was hard to tell.

I don't think that giving him cereal is helping him sleep through the night just yet because he has also had his first head cold this week. He has been feeling pretty sick and yucky. He has been congested and seems to have a slight earache. No matter how bad he feels, though, he still has a great sense of humor.

Last Monday morning at about 3:30 a.m., I woke up when he didn't seem to be breathing very well. His nose was terribly stopped up so I woke him up and tried to aspirate his nose which he hated. At that time he had a fever of 100.7. So I gave him some baby Tylenol and thought I would sit in the bathroom with him while I ran the shower on hot, hoping that the steam would help clear his head. That seemed to work pretty well and by the time we were done he wanted to eat. Next I fed him and about two minutes after he was finished he got sick all over both of us. So, I got us both into the bath tub to get us cleaned up and guess what he did all over me and the bath tub????? Yep. He pooped. By this time it was 5:30 a.m. Once I stopped laughing, I had to clean and drain the water then clean the tub again and get us back into the tub. I was beat.

Did someone ask where Baba was this whole time? Oh. He was snoring like a freight train and never noticed a thing.

I took Liam to the doctor the next morning (well, really a few hours later) and she said that it was just a little cold and to let it run its course. Today is Friday and he seems much better even though he does occasionally grab his ear and shriek for just a second. I have been giving him Tylenol when I think he is hurting, per the doctors advice. Hopefully he will be better tomorrow, but no matter how bad he feels he is still in a very good mood.

Maybe it all goes back to the ice cream that Baba keeps giving him? Ice cream makes me happy, after all...

My first blog post

Hello family and friends! This is my first attempt at writing a blog and uploading videos of Liam for everyone to enjoy. Please send me ideas for improving and enhancing this blog as time goes on.

Yesterday I bought Liam a bouncy seat in the hope that he would be able to safely sit and occupy himself for a few minutes while I take care of things around the house. When he was first born, Liam wanted to be held all day long - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It was very tiring for Mommy but I knew that it would eventually pass and that he would not start school demanding to be held all day and night. Lately, he has tolerated a little more time on his own. I can put him in the swing, the baby rocker, or on the sofa surrounded by pillows and he will not scream bloody murder to be picked up - not immediately anyway.

My friend Ashley kept telling me how much her son Walker enjoys being in his bouncy seat and how he entertains himself for long periods of time just kicking his legs and bouncing. So, I decided that Liam needed one too. Last night as I was trying to put it together he was so cranky because he had missed his afternoon nap while we were out running errands. The minute I got the bouncy seat together and put him in it he was a new man. He started laughing and cooing and talking to the animals on the activity bar. He stayed in that thing for probably 20 minutes just talking and squealing. Needless to say, the bouncy seat is a big hit.

This video was shot while I was trying to cook dinner. I put the bouncy seat on the kitchen table and he entertained himself (and me) while I attempted to but failed at making beef short ribs.
